how do I record a simple audio message

Hi,
I'd like my kids to be able to record a simple message and email it to the
grandparents. Is there a simple way to do this using the standard s/w
suite, or do I need to buy a recording s/w? I have the MS media center
package.

you could just record it with sound recorder (provided it wouldn't be
too long - Sound Recorder has an annoying limit that makes you hit
record again after about a minute). very basic, but i guess it gets the
job done.
