This is not a marketplace type of newsgroup!

Well as I was going to give these cd's away as they are absolutely no use to
me its now to late they are shredded.
I thought I was going to be of assistance to some poor HP user as the
laptops are absolutely crap I will know better next time.
Don't bother with a reply newsgroup un-subscribed.

Someone has reported me to my isp for
off topic
Cirtainly off topic in alt.comp.sys.palmtops.hp

Loosely topical in...

omp.sys.hp.apps
comp.sys.hp.misc
uk.comp.sys.laptops

"loosely" meaning that just becuase the group's topic is somewhat related, it
doesn't give the OP the right to x'post his ads, spammer style. This tatic
is very common with spammers. They try to get as much exposure by x'posting
and multipostng to as many groups as possible that are loosely related, but
otherwise off topic.

Whether or not the OP was selling something is another story, but is the OP
was, then that's another reason to be rported.

That comment is a little ambiguous, but if you mean that a non-MIME
text message, i.e. one without seperate attachments, can not contain a
virus, then I'm afraid you are mistaken.

Especially (but not only) with Outlook Express, which the OP has and
lots of people have, a non-MIME text message *can* contain a virus.

If I have done things correctly, then for most OE users, this posting
is a demonstration of this fact. (Don't be afraid, it is not a
demonstration of including a virus, but a demonstration of the
*possibility* of including a virus.)

Ok, so what's it supposed to do? BTW, I'm using Mozilla 1.6 to read this...
In OE the "begin <something>" line will be interpreted as the start
of a uuencoded section and it will put everything that follows in an
attachment.
By creating a proper "begin ..." line, you can get an attachment
whose name ends in ".com", i.e. an executable file.

i.e. the only line before the "begin ..." line. I.e. this design flaw
allows you to hide (the text of) postings for OE users.

Apparently this is finally fixed in some version of OE 6.0 (but not
the non-SP version).
